Breaking News From the World of Social Media

Okay – it’s not exactly the most popular holiday, and you most likely did not get paid for it or receive any presents, but that’s little excuse for missing out on one of the biggest days in social media marketing. Friday, June 30th was #SocialMediaDay, and in a belated holiday celebration, your go-to social marketing agency offers this wrap-up of the latest news and events from the world of social media.

Twitter Introduces a Major Redesign of Its Desktop Website and Mobile App

According to Twitter, the makeover was designed to make Twitter faster and easier to use. Notable changes include:

  • An easier to navigate user interface with a sidebar that permits speedy access to user profiles and lists as well as personal settings.

  • Cleaner, more user-friendly typography design.

  • Reply, retweet, and like counts are now displayed in real time for faster performance checking.

New Archive Feature Gives Instagram Users More Options

Instagram users will now be able to hide and store older photos and videos previously posted on their account. Social media marketing insiders noted that the Archive feature will give users the option to hide underperforming posts with low “like” metrics for later reintroduction.

Facebook Rolls Past Two Billion User Mark

Facebook just keeps getting bigger and bigger – to the tune of two billion users across the planet. What’s more, that figure doesn’t include any of the other apps owned or controlled by Facebook such as Messenger, Instagram, and WhatsApp. Altogether, the Facebook juggernaut is actively involved in the social media networking of almost half of the world’s population. Most marketing agency experts consider that a pretty impressive showing given that Facebook is less than 15 years old.

Facebook Unveils Its New Mission Statement

As befitting its reaffirmed leadership position, Facebook has a new mission statement that reflects the current state of social communication. In the words of co-founder Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook seeks to “Give people the power to build community and bring the world closer together.”

Just last February, Zuckerberg released a letter that acknowledged the role played by Facebook in the 2016 presidential election and other geopolitical developments across the globe centered around rigorous real time two-way communication.

Snapchat Releases Snap Map

The new social mapping app employs heat mapping technology that allows Snapchat users to follow the movements of friends for messaging and connecting. Actionmojis update in real time and can show what users are doing – such as traveling or shopping. Visibility has to be opted in to, and users can always cloak their activities by moving in Ghost Mode.
